The unusually hot summer has taken a toll-of-sorts on the television sales in India despite it being a cricket world cup year which it normally sees a large jump every other time during such a mega cricket event.
The country business head of Phillips Branded Television and Audio, TPV Technology India Pvt Ltd, Arun Menon on Tuesday said here this year due to unusually hot summer people have seemingly preferred to buy Air Conditioners and refrigerators.
”In the run-up for the World Cup every other time the sales of large scale TVs in India had seen a jump of 50 to 60 percent but this time it was quite lukewarm at 15 to 20 percent,” he said.
Mr Menon, who was here in connection with the launch of 65 inches Ambilight TV of his company in Gujarat, said during summers, the sales of ACs and refrigerators see a rise but the unusually hot summer this year has seemingly made it a preference even for cricket lovers. ”We expect that the sales of TV sets would see rise after July when summers ease up,”.
Talking about targets, he said that his company which was leading one in audio segment has planned to have a 7 to 8 percent national market share of large screen TV by end of next year. By then it also eyes 10 percent market share in Gujarat and up to 15 percent in South India.―Pen News
