United Microelectronics (UMC) and Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing (PSMC) are poised to continue raising their foundry quotes in the second half of 2021, with bullish wafer ASPs set to boost their gross margins for all of the year, according to industry sources.
Both UMC and PSMC are also expected to enjoy substantial profit increases in the second half of 2021, with the profit growth momentum likely to carry on through 2023, the sources said.
UMC saw its revenue hit a record high for the seventh consecutive quarter in the second quarter of 2021. The company will likely post record-high revenue in 2021, the sources noted.
PSMC saw its monthly revenue top NT$5 billion for the first time in May 2021, buoyed by its fully utilized fab capacity and rising wafer APSs.
PSMC intends to raise its quotes to fair and reasonable levels amid tight capacity that may persist through the end of 2022, company chairman Frank Huang was quoted as saying in previous reports. DIGITIMES
