The local white goods, cloth, and utensil traders, sore with the e-commerce companies, who say, are snatching their customers and business; have adopted a novel means to express their resentment. They are ordering costly white goods from various e-commerce platforms and are returning them once they reach their addresses. This, they hope, would lead to losses for the e-commerce platforms.
The decision to adopt this strategy was taken at a meeting of the local traders. Following the decision, the traders started ordering white goods, including double-door refrigerators, washing machines and microwave ovens.
When the ordered item reached them, they refused to take delivery. From Sangner alone, around 2000 items have been returned so far.
This stratagem has led to the godowns of local courier companies overflowing with goods. They are finding it impossible to handle such a large number of consignments.
Some of them have been forced to keep the consignments in the open and employ people to guard them.
A similar campaign has been launched in Surat (Gujarat) too, from where goods worth Rs 100 crore have been returned so far. — DBPOST
