TCL USA is launching its largest TVs to date with two new 85-inch LCD models in the 4- and 7-series ranges. A 85-inch 8K LCD model with miniLED backlight will launch later this year.
TCL’s XL collection
China’s TCL announced the ‘XL Collection’ at CES 2021 in January. The TVs were supposed to start rolling out in the first quarter, but were delayed. TCL confirms that two of the 85-inch TVs are now available in the US. TCL 85R435 is a basic 85-inch LCD TV with 4K resolution while 85R745 is an 85-inch LCD TV with 4K resolution and local dimming (192 zones). Both TV models run on the Roku platform with access to apps like HBO, Disney+, and Netflix. – “In 2020, sales of big-screen TVs delivered significant growth – nearly doubling 2019 – with even more growth expected in 2021 as many consumers choose to invest in their home entertainment systems for premium content. Never before have first-run movies been released by streaming platforms at the same time as their theater debut,” said Chris Larson, SVP, TCL. “TCL’s XL Collection represents this next stage in the TV industry – large-size, powerful televisions that deliver premier movie-going experiences in the comfort and safety of your own living room – and we’re excited for users to get back that cinematic magic.” TCL 85R745 will also support HDMI 2.1 for VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and “120Hz HDMI input” (note: 4K120 not confirmed yet). It supports HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision as well as Dolby Atmos. It also features a THX Game Mode. The company said that its 4-series 85R435 is available widely in North America while the 7-series 85R745 is available from select dealers such as Amazon for $3000. Later this year, TCL will add an 85-inch ‘OD Zero’ miniLED powered 8K LCD TV to its XL Collection. Flatpanelshd
