Officials at Sony say they will introduce new services linking their robot dog “aibo” with home electrical appliances. The company says it will share some of its technical specifications from this summer — to let other manufacturers participate in the project.
Sony upgraded the aibo last year, after discontinuing the original model in 2006. The new version uses artificial intelligence and sensors. The dog is able to learn by communicating with its owner.
Engineers at Hitachi last year demonstrated the aibo interacting with a robotic vacuum cleaner. The dog answers a voice command and rushes to the device to switch it on.
Sony says it wants to create added value for the aibo by encouraging other companies to adopt it as a platform.―NHK World Japan
