There is a shortage of some TV models in the Taiwan market at present even though the market has entered its traditional off-peak season, as the coronavirus outbreak has disrupted supply, according to sources from local distribution channels.
Hot-selling models from some brands, including Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, are out of stock, as the supply of components needed for production of these models has been disrupted by the outbreak, said the sources.
Besides, brand vendors seem uninterested in replenishing inventory for older models as they are preparing to launch starting the second quarter new models that they already unveiled at CES 2020, added the sources.
While it remains to be seen if the supply of new models could meet market demand, the sources expect the local TV market to contract by 5-10% in 2020 if the shortage continues into the second quarter.
Sony, Samsung and LG have long been the leading brands in the local TV market.
