Sharp Files Patent Lawsuit Against CHOT, TPV, Vizio

Sharp has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Chinese LCD panel maker Xianyang CaiHong Optoelectronics Technology (CHOT), and TV vendors TPV Technology and Vizio in the US, accusing them of infringing 12 patented panel technologies.

Sharp, an affiliate of the Foxconn Group, filed the lawsuit in the US District Court for the Central District of California, seeking an injunction and compensations.

Sharp said in a statement that it had sought to resolve the alleged infringement through negotiations and brought the issue to CHOT’s attention in November of 2019, but related efforts had failed to stop the alleged infringements.

Sharp claims that it holds more than 10,000 display patents in the US, China, Japan, and other countries, with its patent portfolio covering most core display technologies such as those related to IGZO, UV2A, LTPS and PSA.

The complaint also targets TPV and Vizio probably because they use CHOT’s allegedly infringing panels, according to sources from Taiwan’s panel industry.
