Technology Trends

Electronics is fast changing technology. From black-and-white to CTV, to LCD, to LED, to Android LED, and now moving toward 4K resolution technology and so on.

4K panel has been a major upgrade development in LED TV receiver and broadcast technology, taking full-HD to new heights and has triggered high demand.

In recent past, features and performance upgradations like 3D had insignificant effect. 4K resolution, also called 4K, refers to a horizontal-display resolution of approximately 4000 pixels. Digital television and digital cinematography commonly use several different 4K resolutions. In television and consumer media, 3840×2160 (4K UHD) is the dominant 4K standard, whereas the movie projection industry uses 4096×2160 (DCI 4K).

This resolution has an aspect ratio of 16:9, with 8,294,400 total pixels. It is exactly double the horizontal and vertical resolution of 1080p (1920×1080) for a total of four times as many pixels, and triple the horizontal and vertical resolution of 720p (1280×720) for a total of nine times as many pixels. It is sometimes referred to as 2160p, based on the naming patterns established by the previous 720p and 1080p HDTV standards. 4K panel technology has been implemented in large sizes, i.e., 48 inches and beyond.

The 4K television market share has been increasing since 2014-15, and panel prices falling drastically. By 2020, more than half of US households are expected to have 4K-capable TVs. YouTube and the television industry effectively adopted 4K standard in 2014. 4K content from major broadcasters in Canada and USA remained limited for initial years, but World Cup broadcasts in 2018 had a popular impact.

Major demand has actually been created through video streaming from Netflix, Amazon, and it is ever growing. Another sector which created demand has been Sony Studios offering movies in Blue Ray in 4K for Home Studios. Another impact is from X-Box Play stations streaming 4K videos and games.

India is following international trends, and for sure will not be left behind in adopting this marvelous technology; in fact, such sets have been available from key brands since two years. Growth rate of 4K is likely to be tremendous in the near future with wider awareness and prices likely to be more economical with increased production/demand.

4K Ultra-HD, equipped with Ultra-resolution upscaling technology, is likely to enter the market in the next step.
