As we have stepped into the new year, a few major developments are shaping up in LED televisions. In 2020, consumers are expected to see more big-size LED TVs in stores, along with more enhancements in display performance like QLED and OLED, new smart features like AI, and increasingly sophisticated voice controls will gain traction.
Smart TVs with 55- and 65-inch screens are now commonplace. It is expected that these larger sets will take a bigger share of the TV-buying market, especially as prices for jumbo-sized sets continue to shrink. At MEPL, we are also seeing the trend in buying pattern of various brands eying more on the large-size screens, which is allowing us to focus more on the big sizes. Considering the rise in demand, we have added a hi-tech state-of-the-art clean-room facility, with the largest capacity in India currently, and all new assembly line to cater to the same. MEPL is all set to manufacture first indigenous 75-inch Ultra HD LED TV in its LED TV manufacturing facility, and will be the first in India to do so.
Increasing connectivity across the world and growth in service providers like Amazon Prime and Netflix are managing the market growth. The smart TV market growth is credited to the increase in spending of the purchasers on electronics and increasing the demand for web-enabled TVs for consuming rich OTT content. Amazon Fire stick, Google Assistant, and similar smart technologies, are adding a new domain in terms of induction of AI while topping up smart features in
MEPL has recently partnered with ZEE5 as digital entrainment partner to provide premium OTT content for the customers by offering free access schemes. We are also in talks with other OTT providers to have a similar arrangement where we could benefit the customers. MEPL invites these progressive changes, and R&D and marketing team is regularly working on introduction of new technologies and partnerships to serve better smart TV-viewing experience with AI-enabled voice controls.
Voice interactive controls – talk and play. Speaking into a microphone embedded in the remote control is much easier than playing various controls on the remote and it makes it the gradual successor for controlling smart TVs. This year, MEPL will take things up a notch by integrating more expansive digital voice assistants, such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, into its smart TV platforms.
In recent times, many new brands have emerged fueling the demand owing to their offerings of competitive, efficient, technologically superior, and affordable products across all categories. The LED TV market in India is in a constant clash with international brands available in India, but homegrown local brands are trying to acquire attention of the masses with their product offerings.
Over the years, with an experience of end-to-end manufacturing in consumer electronics, MEPL has brought enormous innovation to the table. Our scale of production has seen tremendous growth over the past years; currently, the monthly manufacturing capacity stands at 125,000 LED TV units, 40,000 washing machine units, and 20,000 ACs in the latest assembly line set at the new AC plant at Greater Noida.
Over the years, we have added many crowns to our manufacturing facilities, starting from implementing the largest clean-room facility in India to setting up a whole washing machine plant in Greater Noida, and now establishing a state-of-the-art air conditioner manufacturing facility at Ecotech-III, Greater Noida. MEPL will also be one of the frontline trendsetters in the market to produce IDU units, completely manufactured in India.
