Samsung Electronics has launched an array of its new series of QLED 4K and 8K TVs in Taiwan, waging up its marketing campaigns to take on rivals LG Electronics and Sony for securing one of the top-two TV vendor rankings in the local market.
The new offerings include 75- and 82-inch 8K models and other 4K models in sizes ranging from 43-72 inches.
Although TV sales in Taiwan have been growing slowly in recent years due to high penetration rates, demand for large-size and high-resolution models has continued rising, making the large-size segment a main battlefield in the local market, said Lin Sheng-ping, vice president of consumer electronics business unit at Samsung Taiwan.
Samsung managed to double sales of its 75-inch and above sizes of TVs in the local market and took an over 40% share in the segment in 2018, Lin revealed, adding that the company aims to continue to double its shipments in 2019, with the corresponding sales value increasing at a double-digit rate.
Samsung will also focus on promoting 8K TVs, aiming at becoming the top vendor in the segment, Lin added.
In addition to featuring 8K smart quantum processors developed in house and direct-type backlit modules for optimizing image and sound effects, Samsung’s new TV series products also support AirPlay 2 technology, Lin stated.
Sales of 8K TVs in Taiwan were less than 100,000 units in 2018, and are expected to reach about 300,000 units in 2019, according to an industry estimate.―Digitimes
