Having seen its production lines run at full capacity since April, PMOLED panel maker WiseChip Semiconductor expects its order momentum to continue into August thanks to an improved product mix, according to company sources.
Due to keen competition from the AMOLED and LCD sectors, WiseChip has been shifting its focus to developing and producing PMOLED panels mainly for industrial control and medical care applications, which has achieved significant results, said the sources.
For the first five months of 2020, shipments for industrial control applications accounted for 42 percent of its total sales compared to 30 percent on average in 2019; those for medical care went up to 12 percent from 5 percent; and those for networking devices expanded to 25 percent from 15 percent. At the same time, those for wearables were reduced to 1 percent from 19 percent, revealed the sources.
To sustain its future growth, the company will optimize its core technologies and equipment to develop high-margin niche market products, including the development of barebone systems instead of focusing on panels only, so as to expand its product ecosystem, said the sources.
Based on its product roadmap, the company plans to introduce a temperature sensing product for baby feeding bottles in the fourth quarter of 2020, sports glasses and swimming goggles in 2021, and blood pressure sensing devices and smart helmets in 2022.-Digi Times
