Netflix extends Indian reach with Hathway distribution deal

Hathway Cable and Datacom will offer Netflix via a set-top box (STB) to its 800,000 subscribers. A remote control will offer a dedicated Netflix button to allow Hathway’s cable users to launch the subscription video-on-demand service (SVOD), which can be paid for through their Hathway bill.

The Hathway STB will be bundled with its high-speed, unlimited fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) monthly plans. The STB will be available from October 10, 2018 at an introductory price of Rs. 2999. However, all existing and new Hathway broadband customers, who subscribe to Netflix and pay for their subscription through their Hathway bill, will receive the box for free. This distribution agreement adds to those the SVOD giant already has in India with telecommunications operators Airtel and Vodafone, and direct-to-home (DTH) platforms Tata Sky and Airtel Digital TV.

“In this smart and digital era, customers are looking at leading internet entertainment services like Netflix to access high quality, well-produced entertainment. The soon to be launched Hathway set-top box will make watching streaming videos on large screens an incredible experience.”
