Chairman and managing director of Johnson Controls – Hitachi Air Conditioning India Ltd., Gurmeet Singh, who has been the president of Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Manufacturers Association of India (RAMA) during 2016–2018, has been re-elected as the President of RAMA for the next term, that is, 2018–2020. It is a rare moment in the history of RAMA, when the same person has been elected twice consecutively as the president. Singh has more than 30 years of industry experience and has been associated with brand Hitachi for more than 18 years. He has also been appointed as the vice president (north region) of Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA). During the tenure of Gurmeet Singh as the president for 2016–2018, RAMA undertook many key initiatives in liaison with various industrial and government bodies for the progress and growth of the Indian AC industry. The key initiatives are: RAMA took a lead role in the implementation of Quality Control Orders (QCO); successfully worked with ISHRAE on developing testing and rating standard for chillers; is working closely with the Ozone Cell, Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change to create a National Cooling Action Plan (NCAP) in line with the Kigali Agreement; undertakes industry awareness campaigns which include awareness workshops and other activities for both organized and unorganized sectors for various Government of India initiatives like HCFCs phase-out management plan.
Assocham has appointed Uday Kumar Varma as secretary general. He retired from the position of secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), Government of India on June 30, 2013 and has extensive administrative experience at the highest levels of administration both in the state government of Madhya Pradesh and central government. He succeeds Dr DS Rawat, who stands down after serving in this post for 14 years.
