DD to soon have a creative head

A creative head will soon be appointed for Doordarshan to enhance the quality of its programs, said Information and Broadcasting Minister, Prakash Javadekar, asserting that steps are being taken to modernize the public broadcaster.

Ashok Venkatramani, Managing Director, Zee Media Corporation Ltd., has put in his resignation, which will be effective from July 9, 2019. Venkatramani is an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad and Harvard Business School.

ZEE5 has appointed Yogesh Manwani as Head, News & Stories. Prior to joining ZEE5, he was Business Head at Star Utsav.

A+E Networks/TV18 has promoted Arun Thapar as President – Content & Communication. He will continue to report to Avinash Kaul.

A+E Networks has named Saugato Banerjee as its new managing director, North Asia. The move will effectively consolidate operations across the entire Asia region under the control of a single executive.

Prior to his assignment at A+E Networks, Banerjee held various roles in media and advertising in his previous jobs at ESPN STAR Sports, CNBC Asia-Pacific, Contract Advertising, and FCB India.

Information and Broadcasting Secretary, Amit Khare, has recommended that a three-month extension in service, from June 29, 2019, be granted to Director General, Doordarshan, Supriya Sahu, since the process of filling up the post of director general in Doordarshan is likely to take more time.

The post of director general in Doordarshan is governed by the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Director General (Akashvani) and director general (Doordarshan) (Recruitment) Regulations, 2001.

Sun Network has appointed Suriyanarayanan Ramsai as national sales head for Malayalam cluster. He has worked with Dinamalar, Lintas Media Group, and Wavemaker.

Sangeetha Aiyer, previously the vice president and head of marketing for A+E Networks and TV18 will now head brand and marketing initiatives for Network18 Digital. She will report to Puneet Singhvi. Aiyer has over 18 years of experience in the industry and has worked in media organisations such as Times Network, Reliance Broadcast, and Star India. She joined TV18 in 2011.
