Korea’s ICT exports hit All-time high last year

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on Jan. 12 that Korea’s annual ICT exports hit an all-time high of US$227.62 billion last year, with the annual imports at US$135 billion.

Last year, South Korea’s semiconductor exports hit an all-time high of US$128.7 billion and exceeded US$100 billion for the second consecutive year. Specifically, memory chip exports increased 28.9 percent to US$82.43 billion and non-memory chip exports reached the highest level in history by exceeding US$30 billion in October last year.

Display exports increased 19 percent to US$24.66 billion. In particular, OLED display exports topped US$10 billion in October last year and exceeded US$10 billion for the fourth consecutive year.

Mobile phone exports totaled US$14 billion with a year-on-year increase of 24.7 percent. Exports of computers and peripherals increased 25 percent to US$17.39 billion. This was led by SSD exports, which topped US$10 billion for the second consecutive year.

Non-large companies in the sector showed an increase in annual exports for two years in a row. Specifically, their exports increased 25 percent to US$54.19 billion and their semiconductor exports jumped 42.8 percent to US$25.28 billion.

In December last year, exports from the sector added up to US$22.14 billion, which is a record high, and the monthly imports were US$13.24 billion. Business Korea
