Global shipments of TV panels totaled 140 million units in the first half of 2019, up 3.6% from a year earlier, driven mostly by capacity ramps by China’s plat panel makers, according to data compiled by China-based research firm Sigmaintell Consulting.
In terms of area shipments, global TV panel shipments also increased 10.4% on year to 77.34 million square meters, the same data showed.
TV panels shipped by China’s makers accounted for 45.8% of global shipments in the first half of 2019, buoyed by the kick-off of three advanced-generation LCD fabs during the six-month period.
By individual companies, BOE Technology ranked first with its shipments reaching 27.6 million units in the first half. LG Display was second, but saw its shipments dropped 4.5% on year to 22.5 million units. Innolux took the third position with 21.92 million units, increasing 5.6% on year.
China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT) ranked fourth, buoyed by increased shipments of over 55-inch models from its 10.5G line. Samsung Display trailed behind CSOT and saw its shipments slide 10.6% from a year earlier due to weak demand from brand clients, particularly in China.
Meanwhile, global production capacity for TV panels expanded 12.2% in the first half of 2019 in terms of area production and is expected to grow at a rate of 8.8% for all of 2019, Sigmaintell said.―Digitimes
