GE Appliances To Invest USD 200 Million In Louisville, Adding 400 Jobs

Two major investments will add 400 new jobs and two new products made at Louisville’s Appliance Park.

Wages will start at USD 14 an hour for manufacturing jobs.

Haier Company announced that it will invest USD 200 million in GE Appliances to expand its dishwasher and laundry manufacturing facilities.

The company will add a new topload washer and a new dryer platform to its laundry production line. It will also expand production capacity for existing models by 20 percent.

The investment will also expand dishwasher production by 35 percent for new plastic and stainless-steel tub models.

The announcement is creating stability for the thousands of people who already work at Appliance Park, and possible opportunities for people who are looking for a job in Louisville, according to Local 761 president, Dino Driskell, who represents GE Appliances union members.

“It’s great news,” Driskell said. “We had a couple lines get moved to other states, so this adds a little more stability to having the jobs here local.”

Appliance Park employs 6000 workers in Louisville. According to company numbers, GE Appliances has a USD 4.6 billion annual impact on the Kentucky economy. Over the next five years, the company says it will increase its economic impact by an additional USD 18 billion.— WDRB
