ETRI develops technology to facilitate non-memory chip design

The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) announced on Jan. 13 that it has developed RISC-V eXpress as a platform with which RISC-V chips can be designed with greater ease and speed.

“With the new platform for automated RISC-V chip design, fabless companies can design the chips simply by selecting intellectual properties suitable for their performance targets,” the institute said.

The platform incorporates an ultra-low power consumption technology optimized for the IoT and wearable device fields. It is capable of driving an IoT application with a voltage of no more than 0.48 V and power consumption can be reduced by up to 35 percent compared to existing chips.

The institute’s follow-up research plans include the creation of an intelligent semiconductor ecosystem as a combination of human body communication, AI acceleration, and so on and further chip design technology development for import replacement.

The platform technology has been transferred to semiconductor equipment developers, including RC-TECH. Details of the research have been published in the IEEE Internet of Things Journal. Business Korea
