Backlit unit (BLU) provider Radiant Opto-Electronics and optical film maker Wah Hong Industrial have reported strong sales for August, buoyed by robust demand for IT devices including notebooks and tablets supporting stay-at-home economy.
Radiant posted revenues of NT$5.323 billion (US$181.82 million) for August, up 5.99% on month and 10.16% on year. However, For January-August, the company posted revenues of NT$34.145 billion, down 10.31% on year.
Its BLU shipments totaled 11.797 million units in August, including 6.879 million units for smartphones and tablets, 4.834 million units for notebooks and monitors, and 13,000 units for TV applications.
Radiant’s BLU shipments to the tablet sector will continue to grow in the latter half of the year as Apple has launched its 10.8-inch new iPad products and end-market demand for 10.2-inch iPad remains strong, according to industry sources.
Wah Hong saw its revenues expand 6.9% sequentially and 15.4% on year to a five-year high of NT$966 million in August. Year-to-date revenues totaled NT$6.53 billion, increasing 4.03% from a year earlier.
The company noted that demand for optical films for large-size applications such as TVs has been picking up since July-August thanks to inventory build-ups by TV brands and channel operators. It expects its third-quarter 2020 revenues to grow 20-30% sequentially.-Digi Times
