BOE Technology has begun construction of its third 6G flexible OLED panel line in Chongqing with a capacity of 48,000 substrates a month, according to a sina report.
The company is investing a total of CNY46.5 billion (USD 6.88 billion) in the new line, which aims to roll out flexible OLED panels for the handset, automotive and notebook applications, said the report.
BOE kicked off official operations of its first 6G flexible OLED line in Chengdu in May 2017 and is now building its second 6G OLED line in Mianyang, which is slated for volume production in 2019, added the report.
Buoyed by the completion of its second OLED line, BOE is expected to expand its market share in the sector, where it is competing with rivals including Samsung Display, LG Display, Sharp and Japan Display (JDI), said the report.
According to data from IHS Markit, global shipments of flexible OLED panels reached 157.6 million units in 2018, representing a three-fold increase from the amount seen in 2015 and a CAGR of 50 percent during the period.—Digitimes
