IHS Markit says that sales of 8K sets are below their already modest expectations. At best only 18,000 8K sets will be sold globally this year according to IHS forecasts well down on its own earlier predictions that some 85,000 units would be sold in 2018.
However, Japanese 8K full-time transmissions will start this coming weekend on December 1st with a full portfolio of 8K transmissions all captured in full 8K.
IHS has also downgraded its expectations for 2019, and now says that around 430,000 units will be sold and this is less than 50 percent of its original forecasts made in April that about 905,000 units would be sold next year.
Currently, Samsung Electronics and Japan’s Sharp Corp. are the only companies that have released 8K TVs in the market, so the size is not that big.
IHS Markit added the shipment of 8K TVs is expected to reach 1.89 million units in 2020, eventually to reach 5.41 million units in 2022..― Advanced Television
